Akzo's New Paint Feels Like Textile

By Jason Lawton | March 25, 2005

Akzo Nobel has developed a sensorial, textile-effect paint which it says can reproduce the look and feel of suede, leather, or woven fabric. Known as Alpha Tacto, Akzo contends it is the first decorative paint product capable of providing two distinct effects, depending on how it is applied to the wall.

The secret behind the coating lies in the application method. When using a specially designed Alpha Tacto tool, the finish mimics the look and feel of textile. The product is to be used combination with a specially developed primer (Alpha BL Grond), which was based on new binder technology. Alpha Tacto, offered in 33 colors, is available only in Italy. Alpha Tacto will be marketed under the Sikkens brand name.

Akzo Nobel says it has plans to launch the paint in other European markets.
