3M today announced that Robert S. Morrison, retired vice chairman of PepsiCo Inc. and former chairman and CEO of Quaker Oats Co., has been named interim chairman and CEO.
His appointment follows the announced departure of W. James McNerney, Jr., who is headed to Boeing.
Morrison said that 3M is considering both internal and external candidates to fill the post. The selection committee will be chaired by 3M board member Vance Coffman, recently retired chairman and CEO of Lockheed Martin.
"While the company has developed strong internal candidates in recent years, the board believes that it is important to consider all the possibilities in making this decision," Morrison said.
3M makes coatings, adhesives, sealants and related products used in diverse applications and markets ranging from construction to marine to medical to DIY.
