CLEARCorps/Detroit and its founding sponsor, BASF Corporation, celebrated this achievement at a special event commemorating the 100th Detroit house in which lead hazards have been reduced. Held Oct. 14, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Detroit, the event also recognized the contribution of partners who have supported the efforts of CLEARCorps/Detroit. Special CLEARCorps/Detroit “Getting the Lead Out” Community Champion Awards were given to U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, BASF Corp. and the Detroit Health Department. In addition, 18 CLEARCorps/Detroit AmeriCorps members from the community were recognized for their contributions.
CLEARCorps’ efforts have not gone unnoticed. On Oct. 8, the National Paint and Coatings Association (NPCA) received the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Summit Award—the association’s highest honor in the Associations Advance America Awards (AAA) program—for CLEARCorps, its joint initiative with the Shriver Center at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
