Rohm and Haas Company reported first quarter sales of $1.6 billion, a 17% increase over the same period in 2002, reflecting solid demand in key markets and favorable impact of currencies and acquisitions. Sales in the coatings business increased 18% over the same period in 2002, led by solid demand and share gain due to new product introductions in the architectural paint market, increased demand in lightweight coated paper market, the impact of the acquisition of Ferro’s European powder coatings business, as well as favorable currency and pricing.
