ENTERS THE RAILCAR MARKET
International Paint, Inc., better known for its work on the high seas, roadways and aerospace, is taking to the tracks. The Houston, TX-based unit of Akzo Nobel is entering the rail industry with a new line of products formulated for interior and exterior applications. The company will offer chemical resistant epoxies, urethanes, alkyds and inorganic zincs.
“When we made the decision to aggressively market our line of high performance coatings to the rail industry, we wanted to be sure we would meet or exceed both the performance standards of the rail car owners and the application requirements of the rail car fabrication and repair shops,” said Darrell Manley, rail manager at International Paint in Houston. “To do this, we hired experts who had both in-depth knowledge of the rail industry and expertise in developing coatings technology to satisfy the needs of that market.”
International’s rail car products stable includes Intergard 774, a high- solids, high-gloss DTM epoxy. The product was selected for use in a series of trials at industry repair shops throughout the southern portion of the U.S.
