Western European Coatings for Plastics MARKET To Grow 3.4%
According to Information Research (IRL), the Western European market for coatings for plastics was estimated at 119,930 tons in 2003 and is expected to reach approximately 142,000 tons by 2008, equivalent to annual growth of 3.4%.
The numbers come from IRL’s new study on the Western European market for coatings for plastics, which provides an overview of the industry, markets and trends in the coatings for plastics sector.
According to IRL, polyurethanes are the preferred technology and continue to take market share from acrylics. However, in the future, UV-curable, water-based and speciality technologies are likely to demonstrate the best growth opportunities, especially from 2007 onwards.
Automotive component applications represent the largest single sector of the market at approximately 51,000 tons or 42% of the total market, according to IRL. Other key sectors are the packaging, teletronics and construction.
