After two years of engineering and construction, Evonik's production plant for thermoplastic methacrylic resins, as part of the MATCH project, in Shanghai is now completed. The plant is placing its stakes on the new Continuous Direct Polymerization (CDP) process for making products used primarily as binders in the coating industry. These Degalan products perform impressively in all areas of application that call for a high level of weather resistance, colorfastness and high brilliance, according to the company.
"The CDP process combines the advantages of a continuous process with those of bulk polymerization, yielding products that are cost-effective and of a higher quality than those currently available on the market," said Dr. Dirk Hoehler, who is in charge of the coating resins product Line of Evonik. The chief applications for these products are in marine and container paints, plastic coatings, road markings, metal coatings, ceramic transfer lacquers and printing inks.
With the new site in Shanghai, Evonik is strengthening its position as one of the leading suppliers of methacrylate-based raw materials for coatings in Asia.
Evonik will be showcasing its new production process in a presentation entitled “New Polymerization Technology for Manufacturing Solid Acrylic Resins,” to be held at CHINACOAT on November 19. In addition, the coating resins product line will be providing detailed information about this new generation of solid binders to visitors at Evonik's booth E02E05-10.
