PPG Industries employees from 11 sites in China recently donated clothing, bedding and school supplies for people in Yushu County, Qinghai Province. The “warm winter” program has been led by PPG volunteers for six consecutive years, and this year PPG volunteers at sites in Tianjin, Shanghai, Zhangjiagang, Wuhu, Foshan, Guangzhou, Kunshan and Suzhou collected supplies that will be delivered to schools and poverty care stations in Nangqian village, Yushu County, ahead of the typically harsh winters experienced in the region. Since unexpectedly heavy snow fell on Yushu County in 2008, PPG China has encouraged employees to donate money and winter clothes for people in this area. When an earthquake struck the county in April 2010, PPG supported disaster-relief efforts by donating essential items to help improve living conditions there. “Our involvement in the ‘warm winter’ program demonstrates PPG’s core value of recognizing the concerns and needs of society,” said Cathy Yan, PPG general manager for government affairs and business development, Asia Pacific. “We will continue to expand our Chinese volunteer initiatives and to encourage more employees to engage in charitable endeavors in the areas of education, environmental protection and community donations.” Since the PPG China Volunteer Association began in 2011, PPG has established five volunteer teams with 260 registered members. - See more at: http://www.ppg.com/en/newsroom/news/Pages/20131017B.aspx#sthash.Y55McKnI.dpuf
