Microbes are problematic in many industries including textiles for activewear, products for sports and leisure, architectural paints and coatings, and HVAC systems for IAQ (indoor environmental quality). Silicon-based antimicrobials perform differently than traditional antimicrobials. Most antimicrobials poison cells by being metabolized by the cell. Silicon-based, BIOSAFE antimicrobial imparts bacteriostatic, fungistatic and algistatic properties and binds to substrates with silanol reactivity, assembling on surfaces into a layer of densely packed molecules with a strong positive charge. This positive charge, along with its C18 chains, physically ruptures the cell wall, causing cell lysis, and nothing is transferred or absorbed.
