The Metropolitan New York Coatings Association (MNYCA) has announced the passing of Michael Schnurr’s father, Don Schnurr.
Don Schnurr started his career in the paint business in 1959 as Nautical Marine Paint Corp on Farragut Road in Brooklyn, NY making marine and house paints in the back of the building with a retail store in the front. This was a time when there were over 50 + paint manufacturers in the 5 boroughs of New York. Don continued for the next 20 years making marine paints for the bustling Brooklyn waterfront shipping trade and also house and commercial paints for homeowners and contractors. Don had 2 sons who worked summers at the store and learned the business until they entered the business full time in 1982. The family moved the business in 1992 to New Jersey and Don continued to work with his 2 sons in growing and expanding it to what it is today, now known as National Paint Industries. Don is survived by his wife Martha, three children; Donald Jr, Michael, Tracy, and eight beautiful grandchildren.
