Last week, during a meeting with Macomb County Commissioners, Virginia Gronley, Axalta Coating Systems Learning and Development Advisor shared information on how the Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works Veteran Employability Boot Camp is helping employers find talented candidates. The Boot Camp provides vets with a range of skills such as resume writing, job searching techniques and interviewing skills.
“We have made a pledge to make an effort to hire qualified veterans,” said Gronley. “Many times we have found that an applicant has an outstanding resume and experience, but just doesn’t interview well, for example. The program helps candidates make a great first impression.” Gronley has also served as a boot camp guest presenter, sharing interview and resume tips.
Axalta is encouraged by the hundreds of applications it has received for job openings at its Mt. Clemens facility due to the success of the Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works organization. Gronley noted that Axalta hired a veteran who had been a boot camp participant.
“The skills and networking that I obtained while attending the employability boot camp made it possible to find perfect employment with Axalta Coating Systems as a production operator,” said Justin Glasgow, a boot camp graduate. “My unique resume format that I learned at the boot camp helped me stand out and gave me a chance to prove myself as a valuable employee.”
