BASF Canada announced plans to donate $50,000,over five years, to the St. Lawrence College Cornwall Campus in support of the renovation of the school’s chemistry laboratory. The donation was announced by Carles Navarro, President of BASF Canada, and Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College, at the college campus.
“St. Lawrence College is really pleased that BASF is supporting our students not only in the present, but for many years to come,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College. “This significant gift provides our students in environmental studies, nursing and sciences, with the facilities to learn and experiment and this generous gift will help us meet the evolving needs of our students.”
The chemistry lab renovation project is one of the goals of the school’s The Difference We Make fundraiser and is part of the ongoing revitalization of the Cornwall campus.
“BASF is committed to science education because we realize that today’s students will be the innovators and leaders of our future,” said Carles Navarro, President of BASF Canada. “We are proud to be a part of the Cornwall community and support St. Lawrence College in its efforts to provide students with the tools they need to succeed in their studies and prepare them for careers in science.”
BASF Canada’s Cornwall site manufactures monomeric and polymeric plasticizers that are distributed across North America and abroad. Customers use these products in conjunction with polyvinyl chloride to create finished products such as swimming pool liners, automobile interiors, wire insulation and packaging materials.
BASF is active in the Cornwall community, supporting science education, ecology, health and safety and local community based initiatives through monetary donations and employee volunteer efforts. In 2014, the company brought Kids’ Lab, a series of hands-on chemistry workshops developed by BASF for children between the ages of 6-12, to students in the Cornwall community.
