Coating manufacturers seeking a more cost-effective and efficient process for producing solvent-free acrylic polyols were able to evaluate a new alternative at the European Coatings Show 2015 in Nuremberg, Germany. Using Cardura glycidyl ester as a starting point, a technical team from Hexion (“Hexion” or “the Company”) has developed two types of acrylic polyol dispersions that exhibit improved resin production utilization, easier processing and greater resin stability when compared to solvent-containing formulations.
"Coating industry trends such as new regulatory requirements, increasing consumer environmental sensitivity and growing solvent costs led Hexion to look for a more affordable, waterborne solution for industrial coatings," said Egbert Klaassen, Global Marketing Director of Versatics at Hexion. "Cardura glycidyl ester is well-known for enabling high-performance, lower VOC resins for automotive refinish applications. This breakthrough extends its application to high solids and waterborne industrial coatings."
Hexion also offered a presentation entitled "High Solids and Waterborne Acrylics Made Easy: Cardura Glycidyl Ester Provides Performance and Competitiveness" at ECS.
