PPG Industries’ aerospace transparencies group and Derco Aerospace Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a Sikorsky company, have entered an agreement for Derco to be re-established as an authorized distributor of PPG replacement windshields and windows for the C-130 military transport aircraft and to become an authorized distributor of PPG replacement canopies for the F-16 fighter aircraft.
Under the agreement, PPG-produced cockpit windows for all models of the C-130 aircraft and canopy transparencies for all F-16 fighter configurations will be available to most aftermarket customers through Derco Aerospace. PPG continues to supply OEM parts, as well as spares to the U.S. and other military forces and to a very limited number of other customers.
“Having worked with Derco Aerospace in the past, PPG is pleased to re-establish its relationship with a leader within the F-16 and C-130 communities,” said David Palermo, PPG global platform director, military transparencies. “We are well acquainted with Derco’s capabilities and know we are well suited to work together to supply PPG transparencies to operators outside the U.S. of two of the largest military fleets in the world.”
“As an innovative industry leader, PPG has a long and successful history of producing and delivering quality products that benefit operators worldwide,” said Mark Konzal, vice president of business development at Derco Aerospace Inc. “Derco is pleased to be selected to provide C-130 and F-16 operators with a global source of inventoried PPG transparencies and canopies.”
PPG has been the primary supplier of C-130 transparencies since production began in 1954, and it manufactures them for original equipment and replacement applications at its Huntsville, Alabama, plant. The company was the original YF-16 canopy supplier in 1974 and has produced canopies for the F-16 ever since at its Sylmar, California, plant.
On display at PPG’s Paris Air Show exhibit are a representative windshield for the C-130 and a 550-knot, bird-strike-resistant forward canopy for the F-16 with PPG’s proprietary protective coatings. PPG’s exhibit is at Hall 2B, Stand C105 at the International Paris Air Show being held at Le Bourget Airport June 15-21. Information about Derco Aerospace is available at its exhibit at Hall 3, Stand E140.
