PPG Industries' packaging coatings business announced that, since the October 2014 launch of INNOVEL HPS coatings, orders of the next-generation internal spray coatings by beverage-can makers have increased continuously. To date, PPG estimates that Innovel HPS spray coatings have been used to protect more than 5 billion cans for major beverage brands.
“Brand owners have recognized next-generation Innovel HPS internal spray coatings as the lacquer of choice for a broad range of products in both steel and aluminium cans, with their enhanced characteristics for flavour neutrality, pack performance, effective pasteurization and retort capability,” said John Valukas, PPG global beverage segment manager. “Innovel HPS products use water-based Bisphenol A non-intent (BPA-NI, or with no BPA intentionally added) coatings technology that makes them compliant with applicable European and United States regulations, including the recent national BPA legislation in France. Beyond meeting government regulations, Innovel HPS coatings have been shown to satisfy the needs of beverage industry as well.”
After nearly 12 months of supplying can makers with Innovel HPS coatings, Valukas reported that the robust next-generation spray coatings run efficiently on beverage-can production lines with little need for line changes or disruptions and strong support from highly experienced PPG technical and customer-service teams. Through a SECURE LAUNCH process, PPG provides beverage-can makers with hands-on training to minimise changeover time as they replace traditional epoxy-based coatings with new Innovel HPS coatings. The PPG technical-support team also works with each can maker to evaluate equipment and optimise the conversion process.
“PPG’s goal is to provide its customers with the best product to protect beverage cans and the best service, allowing them to convert to using Innovel HPS coatings with no disruption to their operations” Valukas said.
