From May 5 to May 8, 2016, teams from Axalta Coating Systems took part for the sixth consecutive year in a 1,000 km (~622 mile) bike ride to raise money for Kom op tegen Kanker (KOTK), a leading Belgian cancer charity.
The teams cycled 250 kilometers (~155 miles) on each of the four days, with the routes all ending in Mechelen, Belgium, where the Belgian Axalta office is based.
Luc van den Hemel, Axalta’s Mechelen Site Manager and Belgium Country Manager, says, "It was a very special experience to feel the solidarity of our colleagues as we went through this event. The atmosphere was fantastic. Our cyclists and all the Axalta supporters who worked so hard during the KOTK fundraising initiatives really made this weekend extraordinary. We raised €10,000 and we’ve already started fundraising for next year to ensure we can try to maximize our donation amount.”
The charity said the proceeds would be used on research into organ and tissue-sparing treatment strategies for cancer patients.
Van den Hemel says: “Our team performed fantastically well, and I am very proud of everyone at Axalta who supported our efforts and helped us to raise funds for such a deserving charity.”
