As part of its global community engagement efforts, PPG announced that it recently completed a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project that helped to revitalize Lujia Middle School in Kunshan, China. The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world.
The Lujia Middle School revitalization effort brought together nearly 200 volunteers, including Kunshan government officials, local media, and PPG employees and their families along with faculty of the Lujia Middle School and volunteers from the community, to work on the bleachers and fence of the school’s stadium. Volunteers used about 700 liters (about 185 gallons) of MASTER’S MARK® paint and SEIGNEURIE® floor paint donated by PPG to renovate the bleachers and decorate the fence with colorful pictures.
“We are pleased to see the enthusiasm surrounding this Colorful Communities project, which both helped to beautify the school campus and positively impacted the entire community,” said Zhong Jisheng, manager of PPG’s Kunshan plant. “Our Colorful Communities projects give PPG employees and their families opportunities to interact with and be active in their neighborhoods. We look forward to launching future community-engagement activities to help beautify the city of Kunshan, where our PPG protective and marine coatings plant is located.”
The Kunshan event was the second Colorful Communities project PPG completed in China this year, following a renovation effort at a Shanghai-area school in June. The Colorful Communities program is PPG’s signature initiative for community engagement efforts, with the aim to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world.
“Since PPG launched the Colorful Communities program last year, we have completed four projects in China, near our operations in Tianjin, Zhangjiagang, Shanghai and Kunshan,” said Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, corporate and government affairs, Asia Pacific. “These efforts provide meaningful experiences for our employees, as they help improve the areas where they live, and much needed revitalization for important community sites. We will continue to roll out Colorful Communities projects in China that demonstrate our PPG priority of acting as a good corporate citizen.”
Together with community partners and PPG employees who volunteer, the Colorful Communities program supports projects that transform community assets using donated PPG products. The program increases PPG’s commitment to invest in communities by adding $10 million to support efforts made during a 10-year period. In 2015, PPG completed 11 Colorful Communities projects, and it expects to complete about 30 more this year.
