PPG announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project in Cieszyn, Poland, that helped to revitalize and beautify the city center by adding colorful mural art to a wall and sponsoring the first-ever Mur Art festival of murals. The Colorful Communities program provides PPG employees and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where our company operates around the world, such as Cieszyn, where PPG operates an industrial coatings plant.
For the effort, PPG provided more than $10,000, including about 16 gallons (more than 60 liters) of SIGMA COATINGS brand INDURIN paint products as well as DEKORAL™ Gold painting supplies. Also, working together with Cieszyn city authorities, PPG helped to create and organize the premiere Mur Art festival of murals, holding a contest for artists to submit ideas for the best mural showing the heritage, traditions or legends related to the Cieszyn area.
The Colorful Communities project brought together more than 20 PPG volunteers from the local PPG industrial coatings plant, who spent two days revitalizing an old wall located in the city center by creating a bright, colorful mural showing the most recognizable buildings of Cieszyn – the watch tower and the castle. On the building next to this wall, contest-winning artist Mikołaj Rejs created a mural based on the Legend of Three Brothers, which is the story of the founding of the city.
“Together with the city of Cieszyn, PPG is working to beautify and add color to areas visited by many residents and tourists,” said Waldemar Gołębiewski, PPG plant manager at the Cieszyn industrial coatings facility. “The idea of a festival of murals seemed like a perfect opportunity to both show that PPG is a responsible partner of the local community and brighten the city with our durable and colorful products.”
