With ongoing regulatory uncertainty in Latin America around VOC (volatile organic compounds) content in waterborne interior paints, manufacturers are increasingly looking for environmentally responsible formulation tools to create the next-generation of paints without increasing overall costs or sacrificing quality and performance. During the upcoming ABRAFATI 2017 International Coatings Congress and Exhibition in São Paulo, Brazil, from October 3 – 5, 2017, ANGUS Chemical Company will highlight the benefits of its unique AEPDTM VOX 1000 multifunctional additive for low-odor, low-VOC interior water-based paints.
“As regional formulators are challenged to improve the environmental profile and overall performance of their waterborne paints, AEPD VOX 1000 offers the best all-around performance when considering odor, VOC, wet paint and dry-film properties compared to other commonly used neutralizers,” said Mauricio Nisiyama, regional marketing manager for ANGUS in Latin America.
With a very mild odor, high boiling point and low vapor pressure, AEPD VOX 1000 is the ideal formulating tool for paint producers looking to reduce VOC content in their formulations while improving key performance attributes at all stages of the paint’s life cycle – from manufacturing and in the can to application and on-the-wall performance. For example, when used as a co-dispersant, AEPD VOX 1000 can help reduce viscosity and, in turn, reduce the amount of primary dispersant needed in the formulation.
“The multifunctional nature of AEPD VOX 1000 can enable formulators to reduce the use of other additives that may also contribute to odor and VOC, such as primary dispersants, defoamers, glycols and coalescing agents,” said João Zucco, technical sales representative for ANGUS in Latin America. “This not only saves on costs, but also helps enhance the dry film properties such as scrub resistance. Inorganic bases such as ammonia or potassium hydroxide do not offer the formulation flexibility of AEPD VOX 1000 because they are only able to adjust pH.”
On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, Jackeline Silva, ANGUS Lab Coordinator held a presentation titled “AEPD VOX 1000: Multifunctional neutralizing additive for low-odor and zero-VOC paints, complying with EU Directive 2004/42/EC.” The presentation took place in the Product Presentation Area of the exhibit hall at 4:00 p.m.
ANGUS paint and coatings experts will be available at stand 154 (C-7) during the ABRAFATI 2017 Exhibition to demonstrate the proven benefits of other ANGUS chemistries, such as the Company’s versatile AMPTM biodegradable* amino alcohol, as well as ZOLDINETM MS-Plus, ZOLDINETM XL- 29SE and ALKATERGETM T, which are unique multifunctional ingredients that deliver a wide variety of performance benefits across multiple applications.
On Thursday, October 5, 2017, Zucco will host a presentation to reveal results from a recent blind study comparing AMP-95TM to other competitive neutralizers. The presentation, titled “AMP-95 Comparative Performance Evaluation and Potential Optimizations,” will take place from 1:00 to 1:40 p.m. in the Pigments Auditorium at the São Paulo Exhibition and Convention Center.
“We’re committed to adding value to the market by collaborating with customers to provide the powerful combination of our unique chemistries supported locally by expert formulation guidance from our regional Customer Applications Center in São Paulo,” said Marcelo de Moraes Barros, ANGUS Business Manager, Latin America. “With the challenging economic landscape in Latin America, our goal is to provide superior, cost-effective performance for the latest paints and coatings formulations, while helping simplify manufacturing to drive the sustainable success of our paints and coatings customers.”
