Ultrasonic Systems, Inc. (USI) sets a higher standard in producing uniform coatings that support superior optical performance in lenses and glass panels. Anti-reflection (AR) coatings improve the efficiency of lenses used for LED lighting and traffic lights, as well as glass plates and glass panels used in the solar and smart device markets. The uniformity of the applied coating layer is critical to performance, as measured by both optical transmission and reflection.
USI’s tCAT technology applies a single, uniform layer with a dry layer thickness in the range of 100 nm to 150 nm. USI’s technology is also used to apply nano particle coatings in a uniform and defect-free layer that ensures top optical performance.
The full range of substrate types for thin film coatings include glass plates, lenses, plastic substrates, wafers, and flexible films. USI’s PRISM 1200 and PRISM 800 systems employ a proprietary reciprocating head motion profile to deliver an ultra-uniform coating layer to substrates up to 1,200 mm wide.
USI’s ultrasonic spray head is a solid-state device with no moving parts. It atomizes the coating liquid using ultrasonic energy and then shapes the spray into a flat, sheet-like pattern using low pressure air flow. The spray head is “cleaned in place.” No intricate adjustments are required for setup and no disassembly is required for cleaning.
USI’s advanced liquid delivery system controls flow rate using a precision metering pump (PMP) that is fully integrated into the control system. The liquid flow rate is set in the coating recipe in increments of 1/10th of 1 ml/min.
“USI systems meet the demand for thin, uniform thickness down to sub-micron level required by manufacturers,” said Chris Lasonde, Applications Engineer at USI. “Process repeatability is another area in which USI products lead the industry.”
