POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The preferred candidate will report directly to the Technical Director and will be given projects through all areas of technical (incl. Polymer Science, Analytical, Dispersion, Color Science, Applications, Electrocoat, Primer, Basecoat, and Clearcoat). The incumbent will be given the responsibility for development projects and commercial support activities applicable to the area assigned. This position will include development and optimization of products and processes, both in waterborne and solvent borne chemistries. The successful candidate will through the experience in multiple functions continue to build technical breadth and will be able to demonstrate capability to develop novel coating chemistries. In many areas, the candidate will be involved with global collaboration with India, Mexico, Germany and Japan, and will have visibility across all technical functions and levels of leadership. He or she will be hands-on, working independently and also with a technical expe rt in each area. The length of each assignment will vary depending upon the assignment.
This position requires strong business acumen, as it is expected that contributions are made in the developing of technology strategies for the Automotive OEM coatings industry, as well as new business development including new markets.
STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE:
The objective of this position is to gain a solid breadth of coatings knowledge and ultimately assume the responsibility to innovate and develop high quality / low cost products that support the Automotive OEM market as well as targeted markets outside of Automotive with the potential of becoming an industry wide recognized expert.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Development of coating systems for Automotive OEM or other markets
• Involved in collaboration with technical teams located in India, Mexico, Germany and Japan
• Participation in global technology meetings
• Contributing to technology strategy and direction based on innovation break though with technology developments
• Invention of technology relevant to industry and core markets
• Process and product Design and Innovation
• Develop professional relationships with scientific community, including lead customer contacts
• Support EH&S programs related to company or individual teams
REQUIREMENTS: - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or a Non-Chemical Science required
- Five years of relevant experience required
- Good managerial, organizational, verbal and written communication skills are required.
PREFERRED PAST WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Related experience should include the development of coating systems designed for applications similar to those used in the Automotive industry, but may not be specific to Automotive OEM.
- Experience in Industrial or specialty markets may be applicable, but will depend upon knowledge and breath of chemistry.
- Experience and breadth in chemistries used in coatings, should include those relating to multiple paint systems and coating layers. i.e. Electrocoat, Primers, Topcoats (Color and Clearcoat).
- Direct customer experience is a plus
