Small, well-established and growing specialty industrial coatings manufacturer is looking for an experienced manufacturing operations leader for their powder coatings manufacturing facility at the Eugene, OR HQ location. The Company is in the midst of a transition/succession phase to the next level of growth, with key leadership roles being filled with the long term future in mind. It’s an exciting time. You will have Plant Management responsibility, including:
• Lead improvements in manufacturing practices, processes and priorities, to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and increase on-time, on-spec production to meet customer need.
• Create and implement improved maintenance processes and procedures
• Work closely with the lab to ensure smooth end-to-end process from formulation through production.
• Emphasize strong fundamentals and improved execution.
The Company culture is friendly, solution-oriented, customer-centered… their excellent reputation has been built on years of diligently working to find just the right answers to custom coating challenges. The current powder coating product portfolio is basically strong. Most needs are in customization/development of existing formulations, and “pulling it all together” across the powder operation, leading an integrated approach to capturing maximum value, and developing the existing talent within the powder business. You’ll spend a good amount of time interfacing with other departments, to ensure good communications and effective process; and also spend time with customers. If you think of yourself as an integrator across functions, this is a good role for you. This is a chance to join a special little company, where your contribution will really make a difference and be noticed, and you will have the opportunity to continue to grow your career.
To succeed in this role, a combination of education, experience and personality is required:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Chemical Engineering, BSChE is strongly preferred but Chemistry, Polymer Science or similar also OK if industrial experience is strong.
• MBA helpful but not required.
• 10+ years total industrial experience in coatings manufacturing, polymer processing or similar type production operations is ESSENTIAL. Meaningful, current knowledge of industrial powder coatings manufacturing and production is preferred.
• 4+ years management experience - coatings manufacturing or polymer processing preferred.
* Must have proven experience leading manufacturing & operational process improvements with measurable, significant results. Experience in a Process Engineering role very helpful.
• Good business sense and prioritization ability - understand what will make the most difference to the business and be able to construct an effective plan to accomplish it, without getting bogged down in details.
• Plenty of initiative and can “connect the dots” to solve problems: proven ability to execute decisively but through positive collaboration.
• Genuinely enjoy the people aspect as well as the technical aspect of the role - mentoring and developing a small team and interfacing cross-functionally and with customers.
• Optimistic, can-do attitude.
• Collaborative, friendly, but decisive and able to lead with maturity and confidence.
• Comfortable in a small company environment – wear many hats, do what it takes, work with existing resources.
• Willing to relocate to OR
In exchange for your expertise and commitment, the Company offers a competitive salary depending on experience, bonus, benefits and GREAT long-term stability. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.
