Monsanto is seeking a talented engineer to discover and develop new seed coating technologies. This Coatings Process Discovery Engineer will use mainly Engineering, and other sciences to develop new or improved ways to coat, process, and handle mass produced seeds while preserving the performance of the seed and the efficacy of the coating for industry driven shelf-lives.
The primary research of this role will be to:
- Develop or introduce novel and creative coating technologies, that maintain quality and performance seed coating products (present and future), which are more energy-efficient, and more economical than current technology.
- Select methods to improve aspects of seed coatings, such as chemical composition, fracture and dust-off, color and appearance, flow, and other end user experience metrics.
- Understand standards and capabilities of production, safety and regulations.
- Confer with process engineers, plant operators, product and technology experts, and marketing/sales specialists to resolve problems and deliver solutions.
As a researcher, the individual will perform the following responsibilities:
- Define scientific and technical specifications for research experiments.
- Be a technical lead and drive innovation in their field of expertise.
- Take active participation in project planning.
- Support technical transfer of projects into manufacturing.
- Serve as a safety role model, maintaining high safety standards and promoting improvements.
- Travel to internal/external customer sites.
- Provide process engineering and equipment layout, integration, and specification services for projects which include comparative analysis, technical evaluations and executive summary for senior management.
- Vendor equipment investigation, selection, coordination, and procurement efforts related to projects.
- Innovate and generate potential patents in their area of expertise.
- B.S. or M.S. in engineering (or related field) with >5 years industrial experience (Ph.D. with >2 years industrial experience in a relevant field of Engineering may be considered).
- Candidate must have direct experience with 2 or more following topics: coatings process technology development, industrial-scale coating, equipment design/modification.
- Candidate is expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Working knowledge and working application in math, sciences, and statistics.
- Experience with MS Office and core office computing skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, and work well in a multidisciplinary group, including the flexibility to work with other researchers who are not an expert in their domain.
- Individual should be results-driven while being flexible and able to adapt to changing conditions/priorities.
- Experience with AutoCAD (or equivalent) along with LabView (or equivalent).
- Peer reviewed publications or patents to demonstrate capabilities.
