JOB DESCRIPTION:
Receiving the necessary information from development and technical service teams in Charlotte, this position is responsible for ensuring pilot plant campaigns and transfer to manufacturing is done right the first time. Information transfer is for New Product or Product Improvement for the Dispersions department. Emphasis of the job is on product and process optimization. This position is also responsible for providing technical support to the QC and Production in troubleshooting problem batches and plant processes. This role will be involved in meetings and collaboration with our Technical Service and Research and Development Teams in Charlotte as well as Louisville plant engineers.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Performs job responsibilities safely, following documented work procedures and instructions, while keeping in mind the environmental aspects and their potential impacts.
2. Apply dispersions chemistry and milling equipment knowledge to optimize product formulas and manufacturing efficiency.
3. Document findings from experimental designs, interpret data, generate conclusions and work with team to ensure knowledge sharing and transfer.
4. Provide effective leadership and coaching skills to the lab team. Support Quality and Technical Group Leader and serve as backup for needed coverage.
5. Train and develop employees in accordance with safety, quality, policies and procedures, instructions and environmental aspects of the company.
6. Collaborate with Sr. Process/Reliability Engineer, Operations Engineer, and Continuous Improvement Engineer on the development, scale up, and optimization of new and existing dispersion processes.
7. Participate with global teams to improve overall operation excellence in chemical manufacturing operations (safety, cost reductions, process reliability).
8. Evaluates and analyzes data to continuously improve LVL product quality and site performance and takes immediate action to eliminate significant risk and to propose actions to eliminate non-conformance or deviations.
9. Investigates customer complaints applying root cause analysis methods to ensure root causes are identified and effective corrective actions are implemented.
Desired Skills and Expertise:
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering with minimum 3 years of pilot plant scale-up experience required. Color dispersions or paint experience preferred.
- Demonstrated successes in process support, development and scale-up, with experience working in lab, pilot plant and plant environments.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills. Ability to lead, develop and execute a run plan (previous supervisory experience preferred).
- Proven track record in project management and ability to present progress towards completion of projects strongly preferred.
- Must have high level of initiative, judgment and problem solving skills.
- Past work experience within a quality system environment (i.e. ISO 9001:2008) required.
- Broad chemistry background (in colorant dispersions or coatings strongly preferred).
- Strong ability in working in a team environment; communicate well with cross-functional teams; with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to go up or down stairs, lift packages up to 50 lbs., and be able to see and distinguish colors.
