Job Description:
The Technical Team Leader role is a multi-function position, with responsibilities in laboratory project leadership, environmental/health/safety affairs, product specifications, and quality assurance. Work is performed under direction of Technical Director, with participation in determining and developing approaches for completion of tasks. Work is reviewed upon completion by the manager and/or other team members for adequacy in meeting objectives. Should develop a full knowledge of the practical application of principles, theories, and concepts in the MPI product lines (industrial and personal care).
Responsibilities/Expectations:
• Oversees and facilitates the day-to-day tasks, actions, and deadlines associated with all laboratory projects, including
- New product development
- Product improvement
• Oversees and facilitates all laboratory customer technical studies and general application studies
• Directly manages all aspects of finished product specifications, including
- Determination of new product specifications with management and other team members
- Database recordkeeping and maintenance of all specifications (new, revised)
- Communication and documentation of all specifications and changes with Manufacturing
• Interacts directly as needed with appropriate stakeholders, including
- Raw material suppliers
- Manufacturing
- Quality Assurance
• Oversees and facilitates customer complaint investigations
• Provides EH&S customer support (including SDS, COA, and related information) for both the industrial and personal care divisions, including
- Interpreting customer inquiries and determining the proper response/document
- Completing customer-specific EHS documents
- Completing customer coding packets
• (10-20%) Provides hands-on support to the technical team as needed to meet project deadlines, including
- Testing raw materials and finished products using lab equipment
- Formulating materials for end use testing
- Analysis of data and report generation
• Oversees the maintenance of the laboratory and adherence to ISO procedures
Desired Skills and Expertise:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (or a related science) and at least 5 years of experience in paints, inks, or other coatings technology. Prior experience leading technical teams is a plus.
