We currently have a position for a Coatings & Finishes Manager, to join our Global Commodity Management team in Niles, IL (Just North of Chicago). Finishing includes wet/spray paint, power coating, anodizing, plating, or anything that would be applied for a protective or cosmetic coating. This role would work closely with design engineering/new product development, marketing, quality, operations, engineering, supply management, as well as finishing and direct material suppliers. This role determines the roadmap and implementation strategies to provide high quality, finished products in conjunction with our product and marketing strategies.

Job Description:
We currently have a position for a Coatings & Finishes Manager, to join our Global Commodity Management team in Niles, IL (Just North of Chicago). This role determines the roadmap and implementation strategies to provide high quality, finished products in conjunction with our product and marketing strategies.
Representative Duties:
- Establish baseline for current Color, Material, Finish (CMF) combinations
- Conduct and document analysis of current combination of color, materials, and finishes
- Analyze and document current supplier processes for providing current CMF combinations
- Identify improvement opportunities within the confines of current processes and CMF combinations
- Determine the cost break down related to current CMF applications per part and per supplier
- Develop future state roadmap for CMF
- Identify opportunities for standardization within the CMF applications
- Work with cross-functional teams to develop suppliers to improve current processes to meet improved specifications/standards
- Establish a recommendation for the optimal supply base solution for CMF within Shure
- Identify and implement opportunities for improvements within the current process
- Manages relationships for established commodities:
- Establishing sub-contracting relationships and Terms and Conditions
- Conducting/supporting regularly scheduled supplier business reviews
- Leading/supporting annual contract and pricing negotiations for the responsible commodities and relevant related areas
- Managing and improving Quality, Delivery, and Cost Targets for responsible commodity areas
- Leads commodity teams and establishes commodity strategies
- Establishes and maintains the commodity plan and capability matrix
- Works within the team to establish the company’s strategy and direction within the given commodity. Adapts the strategy as business, market, and economic environments change.
- Conducts Life-Cycle analysis for the commodity, as appropriate
- Identifies critical issues related to the assigned commodities and worksto drive them to resolution within the team
- Identifies cost reduction opportunities within the team and drive implementation to achieve the reductions.
- Populates and distributes supplier scorecards as required
- On-Going Supplier Identification
- Works with internal stakeholders to gather potential requirements
- Review current supply base and identify a potential fit. If no fit exists, identify viable external candidates to meet the requirements
- Provide guidance on viability of potential CMF combinations to engineering, marketing and new products teams
- Analyzes markets and trends
- Conducts market research to identify new technologies to meet evolving finishing requirements
- Conducts market analysis for capabilities, capacity, price, and lead-time
- Analyzes market drivers affecting the commodity (raw material, component availability, global supply and demand, etc.)
- Coordinates supplier technology presentations for internal stakeholders. Introduces new suppliers to the stakeholders when necessary and assist in educating Shure associates about the approved supplier list.
- Generates cost reduction targets (not just PPV, but also cost avoidance)
- Supports and participates on corporate project teams that involve changes or implications to responsible commodity.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or a technically related field, or equivalent experience.
- 10 years exp. in Coatings & Finishes, Supply Chain, or a technical position in a manufacturing environment which produces high end consumer products.
- Thorough understanding of the finishing industry inclusive of the available supply base, specification definition, application processes, measuring & inspection processes for liquid/wet paint, powder coating, metallization (e.g. plating, VMD, PVD) and metallic chemical processes (e.g. chromating, anodizing, phosphating)
- International business travel averaging 25% to 30% of the year or as the need arises
- Flexibility to conduct calls and communications with international Shure associates and suppliers in both Asia and Europe or elsewhere as the need arises
- Competence with MS Office software, MS Excel and MS Access is a plus
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and project management skills required
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to quantify/evaluate manufacturing processes and technologies to ensure “best cost” solutions for purchased components and new product cost parameters
- Demonstrated negotiation, supplier development, and supplier management skills is a plus
- High standards of integrity required
- High energy level and strong self-motivation required
- Planning and organizational skills with an ability to handle a multitude of projects required
