POLYFLUO 535 is an economical grade of micronized, modified fluorocarbon which has been specially processed for easier dispersion, better gloss retention, and faster particle mobility. POLYFLUO 535 has been micronized to a very fine 1-2 NPIRI grind gauge reading, which eliminates the need for prior compounding, grinding or melting.
Due to its very fine particle size, POLYFLUO 535 can be incorporated into most coatings using conventional mixing equipment. POLYFLUO 535 will impart an excellent combination of film toughness (scratch and rub resistance) and lubricity (slip) when added into printing inks, paints or other types of surface coatings.
POLYFLUO 535 is recommended for use in offset, letterpress, ultra-violet, flexo and gravure inks, as well as solventborne and waterbased paints and coatings. Rub and slip properties, as well as the clarity of overprint varnishes (OPV) are greatly enhanced when POLYFLUO 535 is added at 1/2-1% levels. UV inks and coatings have shown improvement in rub resistance and slip due to the ease of POLYFLUO 535 particle migration to the film surface before curing.
Optimum properties for most inks, paints and surface coatings are usually achieved by adding 1-3% by weight. The actual amount will vary depending upon the type of application and the end use requirements.
At temperatures above 600°F some polymer fumes may be emitted due to decomposition of the fluorocarbon polymer. Therefore, smoking should not be permitted when working with this material.
