Hempel, one of the world’s largest independent suppliers of decorative, marine and protective coatings, has announced the launch of a new range of intumescent coatings for passive fire protection of steel structures in the United Arab Emirates.
In an event held at the Madinat Jumeirah, a resort in Dubai, Hempel Paints launched its new intumescent coatings under the brand name of Hempacore. Hempacore acts as a passive fire protector in buildings and other steel structures by extending the time period required by the steel to heat up in case of a fire, thereby restraining the damage and providing the extra crucial time to fire-fighters for controlling the fire and evacuating the facility.
With the introduction of Hempacore, Hempel now offers a full package of coating solutions for all kind of civil structures against cellulosic fires including metro stations, stadiums, airports etc.
Lars Risum, business development manager for Passive Fire Protection at Hempel (Denmark), believes that the introduction of Hempel’s intumescent range will be extremely beneficial for customers.
Hempel has been investing a lot and has undertaken intense research in the field of intumescent coatings for the past five years which has resulted in development of a superior quality intumescent coating, Hempacore. As an initial offering, Hempacore is available in two variants and Hempel promises that more specialized products will be on offer in times to come.
Hempel’s intumescent range includes two one-component solvent-borne acrylic coatings: Hempacore One is specified for on-site applications; Hempacore One FD is specified for off-site applications and has a very fast drying time. Both coatings provide up to 120 minutes of fire protection in cellulosic fires and have shown very good performance in official fire tests.
