l BASF Coatings has been honored by Honda UK Manufacturing in Swindon, UK, with the Supplier 2001 award. The award honors a supplier’s performance in quality, delivery, performance and cost.
BASF Coatings has supplied Honda’s Swindon plant with coatings since 1995 when the facility became Honda’s first to run BASF’s waterborne basecoats. In June, Honda added a second production line in Swindon, increasing its annual production output capacity to 250,000 units, including Civics and CR-V models, which will be exported to North America and Japan.
In other news, BASF Coatings AG has combined its UV curing coatings activities in Münster, Germany. The new R&D center includes a E1.2 billion pilot plant that focuses on UV coating technologies for complex 3D parts and large components. “This multi-functional chamber is the first of its kind in Germany,” said Karl-Heinz Joost, technical head and coordinator of the UV center.
