Fusion UV Systems Obtains Patent for UV/IR Wire Curing System
● Fusion UV Systems, Inc. has been granted a patent, U.S. 6,345,149, for its UV
curing technology for use in the development of UV coatings for copper magnet
and transformer wire. The use of the UV curing process could significantly
reduce VOCs generated by coating wires for electric motors, electronics and
power distribution systems, according to Fusion UV.
“The development of Fusion’s UV oven patent was sparked by concerns for the
large amounts of VOCs emitted from conventional chemistry,” said Jeffrey
Okamitsu, vice president of technology for Fusion UV Systems. “Fusion also
believes that the use of the UV oven will not only enable the reduction of VOC
emission, but also could yield a coating that is tougher, more impervious to water
penetration and more resistant to contaminants that are typically present in
most applications.”
