● The Western European paint market was estimated at almost
5,915,000 tons in 2001 and is expected to grow to almost 6,358,000
tons by 2006, according to Information Research Ltd. (IRL), which
has released a new market study focused on the region. IRL’s “A
Profile of the West European Paint and Coatings Industry” provides
information on 17 countries—Germany, Italy, UK, France,
Spain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Belgium,
Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Greece,
Portugal and Ireland.
According to IRL research, the five “leading economies: are
Germany, Italy, UK, France and Spain. The market research firm
also provides details on the high level of concentration in the market.
The top six producers control 50% of the market and the top 12
account for 59%, according to IRL.
