Thermoplastic polyurethanes with improved tensile strength that are useful as elastomers for sealants, adhesives and coatings have been patented in Europe. They are obtained from hydrogenated polydiene diol with 1.6 to two terminal OH groups per molecule, no. av. MW 500-20,000, isocyanate with 1.8-2.1 NCO groups per molecule, chain extender(s), low-MW
diol(s) and optionally, amine or organometallic catalyst using co-rotating multiple-screw reaction extruder at < 240 °C. The patent was awarded to Shell International Research Mastschappij BV PT.
