l Minwax, manufacturer of wood finishing and wood care products, announced plans to kick off National Woodworking Month by instituting two new consumer programs designed to encourage DIYers to beautify their homes and communities with wood and wood coatings. The company will unveil the 2003 edition of Wood Beautiful, its free, color magazine to inspire and guide consumers through wood finishing and home improvement projects while depicting the latest trends in decorating with wood.
Beginning in April, the 2003 edition of Wood Beautiful will be available at participating Minwax retailers and via the Minwax web site.
As a further commitment to woodworking and decorating, Minwax is also sponsoring the 12th annual Community Craftsman Award Program, an ongoing initiative designed to honor those individuals or groups that have improved their communities through working with wood. Through Dec. 31, 2003, individuals and organizations have the opportunity to nominate themselves or others for the program. Past entrants have performed such tasks as refurbishing a children’s playground or park, training the young or disadvantaged to work with wood and making and distributing wooden holiday toys.
“Minwax started the Community Craftsman Program 12 years ago to support and recognize people who give back to their community by working with wood,” said Harvey Sass, president and general manager for Minwax. “National Woodworking Month is the ideal time to bring attention to the gratification people get from wood finishing, and to call for entries for the 12th annual award.”
The grand prize award includes a $5,000 cash grant, a supply of Minwax Products and a working consultation with wood finishing expert Bruce Johnson. In addition, two runners-up will each receive a supply of Minwax products. l
