Chrysler has scrapped plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ontario that would have incorporated “innovative supplier initiatives,” such as giving suppliers responsibility for investment, hiring employees and managing areas of the plant.
The project involved building a new assembly plant in which the paint and body shops and chassis assembly would be turned over directly to suppliers. The greenfield concept study was initially linked to contract negotiations held last year with the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW).
