Rohm and Haas has been granted a patent for a method for treatment of wood material. It is comprised of contacting wood material with an iron salt and an oxidant in at least one aqueous solution, emulsion or suspension to provide impregnated wood material, wherein the oxidant is at least one of persulfate, perborate and percarbonate, and wherein the wood material is immersed in the at least one aqueous solution, emulsion or suspension, and separating the impregnated wood material from the at least one aqueous solution, emulsion or suspension.
