A recent national survey of 1,026 men and women revealed that home improvement continues to be popular, and maybe even addicting. Of those surveyed, 85% have done or plan to do a home improvement project in the next 12 months, according to Minwax, which commissioned the study. And of those who said they were very satisfied with their home or considered it ideal, 82% still have done or plan to do a project this year.
Respondents who plan on improving their dwellings will spend an average of $9,000. But Minwax said results show that the vast majority (70%) will attempt to update their homes themselves. Just 29% said they planned on hiring a professional.
While it may appear homeowners are never happy with their decor, they are renovating and redecorating for the right reason. Fifty-six percent said one of the main reasons for improving their home was to increase the market value; only 19% admitted it was to keep up with their neighbors.
