Manufacturers of point of service (POS) tinting, dispensing and colorant equipment and technology must be sure to offer their customers user friendly technology that offers repeatable and accurate results.
CPS Color Equipment Inc., a manufacturer of dispensing equipment, offers a variety of equipment and software to meet the needs of its individual customers.
"We offer three different technologies to meet the needs of every customer and prospective, based on speed, accuracy, price and footprint," said Beth S. Grier, sales and marketing coordinator, CPS Color Equipment Inc. "The equipment technologies consist of gear pump technology for speed, piston pump technology for improved compatibility with a wider range of colorant applications, and our patented bellows technology that satisfies the need for economical dispenser solutions in lower POS environments. All technologies use the same software platform which means customers requiring a variety of equipment within their business will benefit from common communication and networking features."
This type of integrated system is key for POS customers who are looking for an efficient system that delivers accurate and repeatable results.
"Customers today are looking for efficiency, including reduced mis-tints, smaller equipment footprint, lower maintenance cost and customer service," said Grier. "Accuracy is a given with automatic machines and our automatics also offer repeatability. Software improvements are speeding up the color delivery service and system reporting options are widening, which can be an added benefit for those customers that want to fully benefit from our software information abilities."
When dealing with sophisticated equipment, the right training can mean the difference between a satisfied and unhappy customer.
"Automated dispensers can seem intimidating at the beginning," said Grier. "That's why CPS Color offers a comprehensive installation program, aimed at the end-user that may be unfamiliar with automated equipment. Automated equipment is more complex than manual equipment and therefore customers should be properly trained on operation and maintenance in order to effectively benefit from the features and benefits the equipment offers."
An essential part of a tinting system are the colorants. According to Ralston Colour, technical knowledge of all features of a tinting system, such as standardization of base paints, colorimetric formulation, dispenser software and color matching is essential. Ralston provides a tailor-made training program for technical staff. The training, provided either on the job or in-house includes compatibility tests of base paints with colorants, quality control, formulating point-of-sale recipes, machine operation and control and on the job installation and software training.
Ralston Colour offers separate colorant lines for water-based and alkyd-based products. All of the products in all series can be used for in-plant and point-of-sale applications, and are available in cans and drums of different volumes. With color strength tolerances of less than 0.5% based on volume, the colorants continuously provide a professional quality. Colorants are formulated to give the widest possible compatibility with base paints and the best reproductivity, according to Ralston.
In order to meet its customers' needs, CPS Color Equipment has worked closely with paint manufacturers and retailers to develop several aspects of its equipment. "CPS Color has improved our equipment to meet a wide range of colorant technologies, including VOC-free colorants," said Grier. "CPS Color has developed special humidifaction systems and nozzle closures to prevent dying of these colorants. Many of these improvements have resulted in lower cost of ownership, improved warranties to the point that CPS has the most comprehensive warranty in the industry."
In addition, several of the company's models have been designed to accept more than one color system, resulting in the ability for customers to have one machine for two paint lines at a fraction of the cost of purchasing and owning two machines, and as a result, reducing the size of the equipment to reduce space requirements.
CPS Color has also launched the new compact Corob D250, a piston dispenser for paint shops and DIY stores. The Corob D250 is a sequential colorant dispenser based on Corob piston pump technology. It is ideal for points of sale with a small to medium output. Its footprint measures only 0.55 m2, nozzles are cleaned automatically, while its dispensing flow rate is 0.6 l./min with a minimum dispensing quantity of 1/384 fl. oz. The dispenser holds up to 16 canisters with a three liter capacity.
According to CPS, the Corob D250 was designed with the ergonomic requirements of the person using the Corob D250 taken as the central starting point for its design. The top edge of the machine's frame and the top of the canisters are placed at the same level making the colorant canisters easily accessible. In addition, for refilling purposes, the empty canister is positioned automatically at the front of the machine. Dedicated software monitors the colorant level in each canister.
In order to provide its customers with faster service and meet the current and future needs in the field of tinting systems, CPS Color is opening Asia Pacific headquarters in Shanghai, China. The operation is expected to be completed by the end of December 2006.
"The Asia Pacific region is of great strategic importance for CPS Color," Arto Metsänen, CEO of CPS Color Group Oy stated. "For many years, we have actively served our customer base in the region from local offices. With the establishment of regional headquarters in Shanghai, we will be able to strengthen our sales and technical support activities for the whole Asian region. The headquarters are closely located to our Shanghai colorant development and production facilities. This will help us improve the relationship between the local needs and our product offering. We are strongly convinced that the new set-up will prove to be beneficial for our customers, supporting them in their future business growth through a solid partnership."
Besides its regional headquarters, CPS Color has also centralized its warehousing in Shanghai, to provide its customers with timely deliveries of colorants. As before, customers will be serviced by sales and technical representatives from CPS Color's network of offices covering the whole Asia Pacific region. CPS Color has further production and sales facilities in Sydney, Australia, Damman and Mumbai, India.
