Buhler is launching the all new, pilot size, high-tech agitated bead mill, MicroMedia P1. Model 400DL High Shear Mixers

The new model 400DL is an inline design for use in laboratory and pilot plant development efforts. The 1-3/8" diameter rotor is driven by a powerful 1 HP motor at speeds up to 10,000 RPM. All wetted surfaces are constructed in 316-stainless steel and are finished to suit the needs of the application. Optional finishes up to a mirror finish and special materials such as alloy are available. This model is also offered with an attached 2.5 gallon mix vessel, and a range of stator heads including the slotted, round hole, fine screen and Quad (four stage) designs. Special seals are available to permit operation in applications to 250 psi. High shear mixers are typically used for mixing, dispersion, emulsification, homogenization and particle size reduction of low viscosity products. These units are applied throughout the process industries and are often used to improve processing efficiencies such as shorter cycle times, smaller particle size and improved particle suspension.

Hockmeyer Improves Milling Technology

Model 850 Basket Mill

The Myers dual shaft basket mill offers the operator greater flexibility for a wide range of viscosities and tank sizes as the mill speed and the batch agitator speed operate independently. MicroSeries Agitator Bead Mills

Netzsch has introduced a line of agitator bead mills for wet grinding of small batches (0.14 to 0.5 liter) with resultant particles down to 10 to 20 nanometers in size. Ideal for laboratory and sample grinding, the MicroSeries line comprises three mills,  with grinding chamber parts fabricated in different materials for specific applications. The general-purpose use MicroFer is designed in stainless steel and has a cooled chamber. For metal-free grinding, the MicroCer features chamber parts in wear-resistant zirconium oxide (composite SiC/Si3N4) and is designed for solvent-based applications. The MicroPur uses polyurethane parts for grinding water-based products. All three machines are equipped with Netzsch's proprietary Zeta grinding system. The MicroSeries also features an improved centrifugal separation system that employs grinding media from 0.05 to 0.8 mm in size, the smallest in the industry. MicroSeries machines are equipped with double-acting mechanical seals and adjustable hose pumps. Particles are continuously processed in circulation  operation between the integrated circulation tank and the laboratory mill. MicroSeries units feature grinding chambers that simplify operation and thereby reduce product loss. Each mill in the MicroSeries line can also be scaled up to handle larger volumes similar to those of Netzsch's MiniSeries mills.

The QL-100 is the largest and newest model of the Union Process Q-Series Attritors and is specially designed with an ASME-coded vessel that will withstand 75 psi. This QL-100 Attritor has specially configured arms and disks to maximize agitation. It is equipped with a shaft seal to handle products with high viscosities. The unique principle of the Q Attritor is the high circulation (pumping) rate which forces the entire contents of the holding tank to pass through the Attritor about eight times per hour. This results in faster grind and a narrower particle size distribution.
