As part of its global community engagement efforts, PPG completed a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project that helped to beautify Bethel, an orphanage that cares for around 30 children in San Luis Río Colorado. PPG Comex employees joined additional volunteers to help revitalize spaces used by Bethel residents, and PPG provided $20,000 including paints and supplies to fund the project.
The Colorful Communities initiative provides volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where PPG operates around the world. The program increases the company’s commitment to invest in communities by adding $10 million to support efforts made during a 10-year period.
At the Bethel orphanage, more than 45 PPG Comex volunteers and representatives from a charitable group made repairs and painted. Mexican muralist Jose Manuel Gómez González worked to create a unique mural using brightly colored COMEX paint products, inviting the children to help create a beautiful space. After completing the hard work, volunteers held a party for the children.
“Adding color to a building really changes the life of the people who live there, and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to help,” said Lidya Fresnedo, PPG Comex representative for the Colorful Communities program. “We’re excited that the Colorful Communities program is bringing smiles to our employees and our neighbors in Mexico. The main goal is to beautify the neighborhoods we call ‘home’ by investing in them, especially where the need is great. Additionally, the projects encourage volunteerism, which builds our employees’ morale and empowers them to create positive change in their communities.”
