EPS Focuses on New High Gloss and Direct-to-Metal Products

Engineered Polymer Solutions (EPS) is focused on two new products at this year's show: a high-gloss product that has proven to exhibit significantly reduced tackiness, as well as an industrial direct-to-metal product for light duty maintenance applications.

"Finished high gloss paints in deep colors use large amounts of colorant and often times, remain tacky after full cure," said Henry Bunch, division vice president, EPS Materials. "We have developed a technology to eliminate that tackiness. The product, 2799, has a lot of very interesting attributes that are applicable beyond just high-gloss. You can go down as far as flat, so basically, one product really can fit all."

Bunch added that, historically, it has been difficult for water-based products to meet the performance requirements needed in the market. "With this one, we think we've got it," he said.

Tyler Bell, research chemist at EPS, delivered a presentation at the show on the detailed testing methods involved in developing 2799. The product underwent a three-pronged testing approach to prove its measurably reduced tackiness.

An industrial direct-to-metal product, 2570, has been designed specifically for corrosion resistance. "This is a water-based product that offers gloss, film hardness, and corrosion-resistance all in one,” Bunch said. It is primarily geared towards light duty maintenance applications.

Further information on both products will be available from EPS in the coming days.
