With the recent formal incorporation of coatingAI AG, the business is on track in its mission to support customers in the coatings industry by leveraging the benefits of AI for process automation.

Based in Winterthur, Switzerland, the team at coatingAI is harnessing advanced computer vision and machine learning technologies to deliver a solution for coating industry customers. coatingAI’s solution will help ensure process and coating quality stability, but it will also reduce costs and environmental impacts.

The deployment of coatingAI removes any ambiguity when defining the optimal machine parameters. Meanwhile, compensation is automatically made for changes in environmental conditions and, regardless of who is operating the line, stable coating quality is assured. Therefore, machine learning technologies significantly reduce powder consumption, production rejects, and labor intensity.

Following a program of intensive R&D, the first coatingAI prototype was tested in January, and training data analysis is currently underway, with field trials scheduled to begin later this year. The global launch of the final product is expected in mid-2022.
