AkzoNobel launched a new high build epoxy coating containing a high level of lamellar glass flake for enhanced abrasion and corrosion protection.
Now available in Europe, Interzone 954GF extends the International range of protective coatings, targeted at areas including the offshore oil & gas and wind industries. Interzone 954GF is fully approved in accordance with offshore corrosion standard NORSOK M501 Ed.6 Systems 1, 4, 7A and 7B.
“Unlike typical high build glass flake epoxy coatings, Interzone 954GF utilizes high aspect ratio lamellar glass flake for extended asset lifetimes and reduced total cost of ownership,” said Ian Fletcher, Europe regional marketing manager. “Approval to a range of NORSOK Systems means that specifications can be simplified, reducing application costs and allowing painting shops to increase productivity."
Interzone 954GF meets the performance requirements of both NORSOK M501 Ed.6 and the proposed revision of ISO 12944, which covers performance testing of Cx offshore environments. The performance testing in both these standards is currently based on the cyclic corrosion methods used in ISO 20340:2009.
“Cyclic corrosion testing has been included in the new revision of ISO 12944 as it shows a greater correlation with environmental factors experienced by coating systems in real life service,” said Andrew Clark, technology leader, Power and Mining, and member of the ISO working group for the U.K.
