PPG recently honored the winners of the first PPG Cup Primary and Secondary Students Drawing Contest at an awards ceremony held on June 15 at the ECO Center in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) in Tianjin, China.
Sponsored by PPG and organized by the ECO Center, the contest challenged schoolchildren to capture their personal view of environmental protection and a low-carbon future in a creative and colorful drawing. A panel of local artists and government officials judged the more than 100 entries received from students at seven primary and secondary schools that are located in TEDA.
Wang Qihan from TEDA First Primary School, Zhao Chenting from TEDA Experimental School and Wei Gangyu from TEDA Second Middle School received grand prizes during the awards ceremony. The panel also awarded nine first-place, 15 second-place and 24 third-place prizes.
Attending the ceremony along with the award-winning students and their parents were Li Yan, deputy director, TEDA Environmental Protection Bureau; Li Hongbo, deputy director, TEDA Street Cultural and Educational Office; Liu Xinyi, deputy director, TEDA ECO Center; and Michael Fu, PPG plant manager, Tianjin.
“We are glad to see PPG supporting this diversified and meaningful event,” said Li Yan. “We hope that more enterprises engage in environmental protection campaigns and contribute to the ecological protection and beautification of China.”
“PPG is committed to producing eco-friendly coatings to protect and beautify communities and the environment,” said Fu. “Echoing the ‘beat air pollution’ theme of this year’s World Environment Day, the drawing contest aimed to increase environmental and low-carbon awareness among students while also broadening their horizons.”
At the ceremony, the students and their parents had an opportunity to visit a low-carbon demonstration building in TEDA.
“As a national science and environmental protection educational organization, we are honored to have jointly organized this contest with PPG,” said Liu. “We will continuously enrich these ideas and activities in the future to engage more enterprises, schools and communities in building a green TEDA.”
Operating in TEDA for 25 years, PPG’s Tianjin facility engages with the community through events such as public open houses and COLORFUL COMMUNITIES projects, where PPG volunteers contribute their time and PPG paint products to help transform community assets.
