PPG announced that its silica products business will present two papers and exhibit at the International Elastomer Conference at the Huntington Convention Center in Cleveland, Oct. 8-10.
Lucas Dos Santos Freire, Ph.D, PPG senior research associate, silica products, will present “Silica Development for Sidewall Compounds” at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9 in Room 26A. As part of a symposium on “Advances in Material and Processes of Car and Truck Tires,” his presentation will model the effects of partially replacing carbon black with treated silica in tire sidewall rubber compounds to reduce tire rolling resistance and increase vehicle fuel economy.
Jared Rueby, PPG engineer, silica products, will present “Evaluation of Pretreated Silica in Industrial Rubber Compounds” at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9 in Room 25A/B. His paper will demonstrate how replacing carbon black with pretreated silica in compounds for mechanical rubber goods can improve product performance without impacting processing. Rueby’s presentation is part of a two-day symposium titled, “New Commercial Developments.”
PPG also will exhibit its range of precipitated silica products for mechanical rubber goods and tire applications, including its portfolio of PPG AGILON performance silica, during the conference’s three-day expo.
Sponsored by the Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the International Elastomer Conference is the rubber and polymer industry’s premier annual gathering of chemists, engineers, technicians, scientists, plant managers, and sales and marketing professionals.
