Do you want the opportunity to drive innovation in the coatings industry?
In order to support Hempel’s ambituous growth agenda a new R&D Department has been formed which is dedicated to Customer Support where we are looking for a Chemist/Specialist for Marine Coatings.
You will play a critical role in Hempel’s innovation process in order to drive the successful implementation of innovations at customer level. You will be building and strengthening strategic customer relations, participate in key customer trials and provide on-site support for root cause analysis of field problems.
Furthermore you will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders (Sales, Marketing, Technical Service, Regional Labs and Core Technology Groups) to ensure the highest business impact of the projects. In order to be successful in the role you will need to be passionate about technology as well as customers.
Your impact :
In the role you will
-Lead the implementation of innovation projects by early validation partner engagement throughout the product development phase and from pilot trial to initial sales by working very closely with and at the customer
-Plan, design, conduct and report projects using existing or new scientific methods and theories for problem solving and developing or revising research and application test methods
-Manage innovation projects and project teams at customer level in a professional way and be responsible for specific deliverables within time as outlined in the project plan, in an efficient manner and maintaining a co-operative, motivated and successful team
-Provide rapid support in case of field problems at customer sites globally
-On-site presence on critical customer product trials
-Assess in detail field complaints and customer issues, develop and maintain technical expertise on application techniques, testing and equipment by customer intimacy, providing input to product R&D
-Gain insights regarding unmet needs at customer by outside-in approach which you will translate into innovation opportunities, thus feeding the Hempel innovation pipeline for Marine Newbuild and Maintenance
-Support internal product launches
-Follow all guidelines and group procedures regarding Health & Safety and Environment
You will be a key interface with customers, Marketing, Product R&D, local Sales and Technical Service and thus be travelling in the field more than half of your time. Ideally you will be based near some of our key R&D hubs: Copenhagen, Barcelona, Shanghai, Singapore, Houston or Korea (Busan).

Your qualifications:
You probably have a technical service background in Protective Coatings. You have specific knowledge of the paints, coating technologies and proven product application experience in the relevant segment. Good chemical knowledge and understanding of Hempel assortment would be a benefit.
The position is very global with many stakeholders. Excellent communication skills both in writing an verbally in English is required as well as solid IT skills. You enjoy to work as part of a team as well as individually. As a person you have a positive attitude, strong customer orientation and a win-win mindset. Thanks to your business acumen you are acting with agility & responsiveness to customer requests. You have good listening and observation skills. Working with a high quality orientation is natural to you.
