Georgia-Pacific Chemicals LLC has an immediate need for a Formulation Scientist at our Technical Center in Decatur, GA (located just outside of Atlanta, GA). The selected individual will create value by working in a research and development environment to identify, develop, scale up and commercialize innovative chemical solutions for the coatings industry for Georgia-Pacific and Invista. We seek creative and inventive individuals who can formulate, apply and evaluate new chemistries into novel coatings & adhesives of value to our customers. The successful candidate will work effectively with representatives from various functions (i.e. Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Engineering, etc.).

- Understanding of structure property relationships of coating resins/polymers
- Using Formulating Software, Design of Experiment other computer based statistical tools
Basic Qualifications:
- Three (3) or more years’ experience working in a chemical laboratory
- B.S. or M.S in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields
- Experience in technical research and development (academic research experience is applicable)
- Experience formulating, applying, curing and evaluating high performance coatings
- Experience with amine curing agents in the production of epoxy, polyurethane, polyester and/or acrylic based coatings
- Experience with phenolic, epoxy, polyester and/or acrylic based thermoset coatings
- Willing and able to travel up to 25% including some international travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD Degree in Organic Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry
- Four (4) or more years’ experience formulating amine based ambient cured coatings and formulating phenolic based thermoset coatings
- Formulating direct-to-metal, corrosion and chemical resistant coatings
- Knowledge or familiarity with adhesive formulations
- Innovation Experience
- Project Management Experience
- Experience in roles with significant customer interaction
- Experience with specifying lab equipment and/or equipping a new lab
- Experience bringing products from concept to commercialization
- Project management and leadership experience
