The past two years have undoubtedly given stress a new meaning. As the world inches out of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on face coverings begin to lift and new cases taper off, the restored sense of normalcy brings with it a peace of mind and a desire for a fresh coat of paint.
Fixr’s Paint and Color Trends 2022 report identifies this year’s hottest home colors are heart-warming neutrals and earthy tones, summoning homeowners to connect to nature and create a tranquil oasis to retreat to after a hard day.
Recruiting input from 64 of the most influential interior design professionals, sage green is the top color choice for bedrooms and living rooms. This natural shade (think the color of light, leafy-green plants), is particularly stunning in a bedroom, the report says. Apart from being aesthetically pleasing, the color helps to lower stress levels promoting a sound night’s sleep. Matching bed linens? Even better, says the experts.
Sage green, the experts say, is a feel-good color symbolic of health, growth, wealth and well-being as it is correlated with the environment, going “green.” It therefore received 48% of the vote for the bedroom color.
For the less audacious consumer, neutrals are both practical and aesthetically pleasing. Thirty-eight percent of experts voted for cream and 30% for taupe. Taupe and cool off-white are best used in smaller spaces to create the illusion of a larger room. In more spacious rooms, cream yields a cozy feel.
These colors present the greatest selling power, according to 81% of the design experts for both the interior and exterior of a home. Black is currently the most popular color for the front door alongside white siding creating curb appeal. According to the report, white and creams create a neutral, clean, fresh backdrop for rooms inspiring more imagination in prospective homebuyers to envision their furnishings in the space.
White is the most recommended color for a home’s exterior to sell for the second consecutive year. White received 58% of the vote, a slightly higher increase from last year’s 53% of the vote. Off-white saw a substantial increase this year jumping 41% from 25% last year. The colors have universal appeal and can make a home look fresh, clean and new whether the home is one or 100.
“A fresh coat of paint is the least expensive way to make your home attractive to buyers,” said design expert Marcia Moore.
