During the year, Jotun Saudia inaugurated a new state of the art paint factory in Yanbu. The company invested roughly $27 million in the factory that will exclusively produce waterborne paints. Jotun’s production capacity in Saudi Arabia is 110 million liters of paint, making it one of the largest in the Middle East.
Jotun was chosen to supply 400,000 liters of paint to the Taizhou Yangtze Bridge in China, which has a designed length of 6.2 kilometers, which is equal to nearly four miles. The paint supply contract for Taizhou Yangtze Bridge in Jiangsu Province in China is an important milestone for Jotun's bridge segment and was signed by Jotun Protective Coating China. With 2x1080 meters spans connecting three towers, the Taizhou Yangtze Bridge will be the biggest three-tower suspension bridge in the world. The construction of the Taizhou Yangtze Bridge started in 2010, and will be completed during 2014.
On the new product front, Jotun Powder Coatings launched the Cool Shades Collection, a new collection of powder coatings formulated to reduce the temperature of aluminum building components that are exposed to the sun, thereby contributing to lowering buildings’ energy consumption and cooling costs. Jotun also launched its Lady Effects premium paint range in the UAE during the year.
