PPG has completed a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project to help beautify part of the Halton Haven Hospice grounds in Runcorn, United Kingdom. The project brought together more than 30 PPG volunteers, who spent two days transforming the hospice’s woodland walk garden.
PPG provided $15,000 (12,000 pounds) to support the renovation and supplied more than 26 gallons (100 liters) of JOHNSTONE’S™ paint by PPG, including Johnstone’s Trade Gori 11 and Gori 99 paint and Johnstone’s smooth metal paint.
The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world, such as in Runcorn, where PPG has a manufacturing facility.
Halton Haven Hospice provides palliative care for people whose illnesses are treatable but cannot be cured. The hospice supports both the patients and their family members, who are also living with a change of circumstances. The goal is the best quality of life for all.
“Our woodland walk garden has been totally transformed, and I thank the volunteers so much for all the time and effort that was put into the project,” said Eleanor Smith, community fundraiser for Halton Haven Hospice. “The teams on both days were so lovely, and their work has made a world of difference.”
PPG volunteers painted metal benches, wooden fences, planters and picnic tables using colors that were carefully chosen by the hospice staff. The color palette of Racing Car, Caribbean Splash, Blue Byberry, Pine Trail, Ripe Eggplant was based on keeping the woodland walk garden a relaxing and subtlety beautified area for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy.
“We are proud to have brought together our volunteers and products to demonstrate our commitment to the community,” said Leah Pinnington, PPG client link business support, Europe, Middle East and Africa, and event leader. “We are delighted to have beautified the woodland walk garden to support the hospice. We hope this will make a positive impact on the hospice’s staff, residents and visitors.”
The Colorful Communities program, PPG’s signature initiative for supporting communities, aims to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world. Through the Colorful Communities program, PPG’s committed volunteers contribute their time and PPG paint products to help transform community assets – from painting classrooms to bringing color to a maternity ward and redesigning a playground. Since 2015, PPG has completed nearly 400 Colorful Communities projects, impacting more than 7.4 million people in 42 countries.
PPG’s global community engagement efforts and the PPG Foundation aim to bring color and brightness to PPG communities around the world. We invested $13.3 million in 2021, supporting hundreds of organizations across more than 40 countries. By investing in educational opportunities, we help grow today’s skilled workforce and develop tomorrow’s innovators in fields related to coatings and manufacturing. Plus, we empower PPG employees to multiply their impact for causes that are important to them by supporting their volunteer efforts and charitable giving. Learn more at communities.ppg.com.
