ACS: Exhibitor Expectations Part 1

After the cancellation of ACS in 2020, exhibitors are eager to participate in this year’s event.

After the 2020 ACS was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 American Coatings Show and Conference will be held April 5-7 at the Indianapolis Convention Center. Exhibitors

Held in partnership with the American Coatings Association (ACA) and Vincentz Network – the organizer of the European Coatings Show and Conference – the American Coatings Show and Conference (ACS/ACC) will be held over three days.

Exhibitors at this year’s show reported that they were eager to get back to “normal” in-person meetings and conferences.

Acme-Hardesty:
“Acme-Hardesty will focus on biobased and sustainable polyols and additives,” said Bryan Huston, VP National Accounts and Inside Sales. “We have a full line of oleochemicals, glycerine, fatty acids, fatty alcohols, fatty acid specialty esters, castor oil & derivatives, and NOP polyols.”

“We have high expectations for the American Coatings Show,” said Huston. “We think attendance for the show will be good and have more decision makers attending. We have noticed that attendance is up at trade shows over the last six months. We are excited to be exhibiting again. Welcome back everyone.”

Alberdingk Boley:
Alberdingk Boley will be featuring its broad range of water-based technologies that deliver excellent performance for multiple substrates. “It is the company’s strategy to provide solutions to our customer’s markets and formulation needs by offering a comprehensive toolbox of technologies like premium water-based acrylics, hybrids, polyurethanes, UV-curable polyurethanes, or specialties including castor and linseed oil-based resins alongside with our dedicated technical service,” said Charles Chuang, associate business manager. “Besides this integrated technology platform approach, we will also promote some new product innovations like U 8500 which is a solvent-free polyurethane dispersion capable of ultra-low VOC formulations (< 50 g/L) and suitable for residential and commercial floor finishes. It has broad formulation latitude with good compatibility with crosslinkers and excellent scratch resistance. We’ve also developed a new urethane acrylic copolymer, UC 8400, for wood and plastic coatings that has excellent chemical resistance, high hardness, and TEA free. It’s the ideal blend partner for acrylics and UV curable dispersions. Lastly, we’ve added another acrylic offering to our portfolio for metal substrates. AC 2433 is suitable for DTM and primer applications with superior wet adhesion and corrosion resistance.”

Alberdingk Boley will also highlight its linseed oil-based polyurethane dispersion, ALBERDINGK LUR 3, which has been used in sustainable woodcare products for a long time, but itslabs recently expanded its scope into high-end concrete wet look sealer applications.

“It has always been the philosophy of Alberdingk Boley to partner and team up with its customers – which has been obviously more difficult during the pandemic, especially when it pertains to joint developments and lab projects.,” said Chuang. “However, we were still able to stay in close communications with our customers through technical sessions, both virtual and in person. Additionally, we have been ramping up our communication on social media platforms with great response from our partners. While we will maintain resource investment into various communications strategy, we do not consider this a replacement for personal interactions– in this sense, we are excited and look forward to getting back on the stage to see even more of our customers again in person at this upcoming event.”

Barentz:

Borchers:
Featured products from Borchers will include Borchi OXY-Coat 1101 cobalt-free high-performance catalyst for improved performance and durability in waterborne alkyd trim coatings when tested against cobalt carboxylates and waterborne acrylics. “We will also be highlighting our Borchi Dragon cobalt-free high-performance catalyst for enhanced performance in high solids alkyds and our new Borchi Burst defoamers for foam elimination in architectural coatings,” said Elizabeth Sweeney, marketing communications.
 
“We are very excited to connect with everyone and showcase what we’ve been working on over the last few years,” she added. “We expect it to be a lively show as we are all grateful to be able to meet in person once again.”

BRB:
BRB North America will showcase the following products from its extensive range of coating and ink additives:

• BRB Siloen WA 264 - a polyether modified siloxane for aqueous coatings with excellent wetting and levelling properties
• BRB Siloen WA 265 - an organo-modified trisiloxane which provides outstanding surface tension reduction and super spreading properties to any aqueous solution
• BRB Siloen LA 271 - a glycol-modified silicone fluid which works as an additive for ink and coating applications with good substrate wetting and slip
• BRB Siloen SMA 283 - a polyether-modified siloxane as additive for waterborne and solvent coatings with excellent slip, smoothness and anti-crater effect

Clariant recently introduced its bio-based offerings to drive reduction in fossil carbon use within paint and coatings formulations. Customers can now benefit from 100% bio-based Vita surfactants, polyglycols and other processing aids to help maximize renewable carbon content without compromising processing or performance.

“Similarly, our 98% RCI rice bran-based Ceridust waxes provide a highly-sustainable solution for elevating the performance of wood and powder coatings to meet higher aesthetic demands from consumers,” said Chan. “Clariant also offers manufacturers sustainable options to push performance and improve their environmental profile by reducing product and manufacturing emissions, as in the case of our halogen-free Exolit AP flame retardants. They take intumescent fire safety to a new level for the building and construction, and protective and marine sectors, enabling a faster response and longer resistance to fires compared to intumescent coatings based on standard APP solutions.”

DCL:
DCL is exhibiting new Perylene and Quinacridone pigments as well new Benzimidazolone grades for Industrial coatings applications.  “We have also made some stylized coating effects which we are displaying on three-dimensional shapes,” said Frank Lavieri, EVP, sales and marketing. “We are highlighting our capacity expansions in North America that shorten supply chains to customers in the America’s which is a hot topic of discussion today due to global supply chain slowdowns. Finally, we are releasing all new literature at the show.”

“We are looking forward to reconnect to customers in person after two years of COVID-19 restrictions,” he added.

Engineered Polymer Solutions (EPS):
EPS will be showcasing products from its four main segments, which are resins for construction, industrial and architectural coatings, and colorants. “As part of our construction portfolio, we have EPS 2252, a high solids all-acrylic polymer for roof coatings with exceptional adhesion to TPO, EPDM, metal, asphalt, and other common roofing substrates,” said Jose Luna, global marketing director.
“For our industrial customers, we are launching EPS 2436, a new all-acrylic dispersion for high-quality wood coatings with excellent chemical resistance and mechanical properties. In the industrial metal segment, we have EPS 2580, a direct-to-metal polymer with exceptional corrosion resistance that can be formulated at <50 g/L VOC.”
“For architectural coatings formulators, we are showcasing EPS 2799, a great choice for high-performance gloss interior and exterior coatings with exceptional dirt pickup resistance. EPS 2799 can be used to formulate near zero VOC paints using the EPS 9147 coalescent. Finally, from our colorants portfolio, we are highlighting NovoColor SF, a waterborne dispersion for coatings and stains where a high degree of color transparency is desired.”

“We have been staying in close contact with our customers, scheduling remote sales calls and technical reviews,” Luna added. “We are looking forward to reconnecting with them and having some productive in-person meetings. We are also looking forward to confirming the latest trends that we see in the marketplace.”
